Clinical case

  • Taken to the clinic for contact with processionary moth three days earlier;
  • Halitosis, sialorrhoea, inability to take solid food and liquids;

Clinical evaluation

  • Extensive necrotic areas on the tongue
  • Excoriation on the tip of the truffle
  • Diagnosis: tongue necrosis by processionary moths

Therapy

  • Surgical debridment, partial glossectomy
  • Antibiotic therapy (metronidazole + spiramycin) in non-therapeutic dosage due to administration error by owner
  • IM corticosteroid therapy in single administration 
  • MLS® Laser Therapy: «tongue ulcer" programme in point-to-point and scanning mode and "contaminated wound" with 10% intensity in point-to-point mode. Treatment frequency: daily for two applications then after 5 days.

Results

Fast pain resolution from the first session with no sialorrhoea and resumption of spontaneous feeding
