Tyson, Cane Corso with oral wound infected by foreign body

Clinical case

  • Brought to the clinic for unilateral left sialorrhoea and halitosis;
  • Loss of appetite for two days;
  • Immunosuppressive therapy with prednisolone for IBD.

Clinical examination

  • Presence of abundant necrotic and purulent material inside the oral cavity;
  • After cleaning, a foreign body (wood fragment) measuring 2x0.5 cm was found embedded in the gingival mucosa;
  • Diagnostic suspicion: suppurative inflammation with severe necrosis extending to the oral mucosa secondary to foreign body.

Therapy

  • Debridement, disinfection and removal of the foreign body;
  • Antibiotic therapy with double coverage;
  • Analgesic therapy with paracetamol 10 mg/kg BID for 3 days;
  • Decreasing cortisone therapy;
  • MLS® Laser Therapy: «acute inflammation» program externally with a Ø 2 cm lens twice, subsequently «wound (infected)» program intra-orally with a Ø 0.8 cm lens with points every other day the first week, then twice a week for two weeks.

Results

  • Quick resolution of pain with the first two sessions;
  • Complete healing in three weeks.
