Encouraging results in the reduction of pain, in the use of analgesic medications and in the improvement of functionality and quality of life in elderly dogs affected by osteoarthritis are achieved from the joint application of MLS® Laser Therapy and acupuncture.
Three clinical cases, analysed in the study “Use of Acupuncture in combination with MLS® Laser Therapy in aged dogs with osteoarthritis: three clinical cases” confirm this:
- A Golden Retriever aged 16 with difficulty standing up, lameness in the right hind limb, degenerative joint disease of the metacarpophalangeal joints and generalised hypomyotrophy, following the application of the two therapies in fact showed an improvement in mobility and a reduction of the pain, without resorting to the use of any medication.
- A 15-year-old Labrador with degenerative disease of the left elbow joints, suspected rupture of the left cranial cruciate ligament and pain on palpation of the lumbar region also benefited from the combination of MLS® & acupuncture. Two sessions were enough for the animal to start walking better, experiencing significant pain relief.
- A reduction of suffering also for a 13-year-old Belgian Shepherd with intervertebral disc herniation and severe degenerative disease of the right hip associated with regional hypomyotrophy. Where after just one treatment the dog had a sudden improvement in mobility, after three sessions it was back to normal, starting to jump again. The positive outcome led to the suspension of the drug therapy.
